FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

  1. How does wireless compare to a Dialup Connection?
Dialup connections operate at a maximum speed of 53 kbps under ideal conditions.  The average dialup connection is about 40 kbps.  With Infobahn Outfitters' residential wireless your maximum speed will be much faster -- up to 768 kbps.  And if you have a second phone line just for Internet service, you will no longer need it.

  2. What equipment is required?
We provide the equipment and we retain ownership.  You need a single computer with a network card (NIC).  If you don't have a NIC, we can install one for you for an additional fee (see front).  If you want to connect more than one computer, you will need a local area network (LAN).  We sell and install LANs.  Contact us for details and pricing.

  3. Does this service use a phone line?
No. You will be able to receive and place phone calls through your phone line while you are on the Internet.

  4. What about security for always on systems?
We recommend that all users use reputable anti-virus software.  You will not be assigned a public, static IP address, which gives some protection. However, we do recommend a firewall to protect you from unwanted Internet traffic.

  5. Do cordless phones interfere with this system?
Some cordless phones, baby monitors, and other wireless devices may interfere with your radio performance.  You may need to isolate the radio from the phone base and headset or change the channel on your device.

  6. What speeds will I get?
Actual speeds may be less than the maximum rate and vary based on a number of factors, including the performance of your computer, Internet congestion, and the speeds of web sites you access.  This is a consumer-grade service and is not meant to replace high-capacity dedicated service.  If you need high capacity service, please contact us about our business grade services.

  7. Can I see the equipment? How big is the radio? How big is the antenna?  Where will the antenna be installed?
Stop by our office or view the pictures on our web site (View pictures).  The indoor radio is generally about 9" x 6" x 2.5".  The size and type of the antenna depends on your location.  Indoor antennas are generally 6.5" x 6.5" x 2.5". Outdoor antennas include the patch (10" x 10") and for further distance from the tower, a Yagi antenna (48" long). We continue to change antenna types and sizes to meet current needs. Please contact us if you need specific details.

  8. Can I install the equipment myself?  If I do, is the price less?
If your location has good signal, you may install the indoor antenna yourself.  We can not waive the up-front fee if you do your own installation.  FCC regulations require that we install outdoor antennas when they are required.

  9. Can I connect more than one computer?
Yes.  You will need a local area network, along with a firewall router.  If you would like assistance in setting up your network, please contact us for pricing.

  10. Do I get my own IP address? Can I host a server?
Only private, dynamic IP addresses are provided. The acceptable use policy prohibits servers, including Kazaa.  Hosting services are available for business wireless and traditional dsl packages.  We also offer server co-location and virtual hosting.

  11. Can I keep my old email address?
If your previous address was from Infobahn Outfitters (e.g. myaccount@bushnell.net), you may continue to use it.  If you are switching from another provider, check with your previous provider to determine your options and any fees.

  12. Is a contract required?
We do require a contract, but the minimum term is one month. Keep in mind that contracts with longer terms generally save you money.

  13. Is there a fee if I cancel the service ?
If you do not return the equipment in functional order, a $600 penalty applies. For contracts with longer than one month terms, penalties for contract cancellation do apply. Please refer to your contract or contact our office if you would like details.
